Golf is NOT a Mental Game!

I posted this (my first) video on YouTube about a year ago, before I launched this website and my online Golf Mind Coaching programme. It might sound crazy to say that golf is not a mental game, but watch this video and I’ll explain all!

Unlike many other mental golf training approaches, the philosophy in this video flows through all my material.

Please let me have your thoughts below.

Kind regards,
Karl

Ps – all the programmes below come with a 60 day ‘no questions asked’ money back guarantee, so you can purchase with confidence.

How to Keep Your Concentration on the Golf Course

Many players that I begin to work with complain of lack of focus and an inability to concentrate over the period of a round of golf. They look back on many rounds where they have simply thrown shots away, hit the ball almost without thinking and let yet another round slip away into oblivion. Many times they walk of the course and say they are absolutely drained.

Are they physically tired or mentally exhausted?

One of the absolutely CRITICAL errors most golfers make is to hold on to the mistaken belief that golf is about SERIOUS concentration for the entire round they play….

This is a BIG mental error.

Our ability to focus for our shots is dependent on being able to go in and out of an intense state of focus.

I would like you to, from now on imagine that you go out each time onto the golf course with an egg timer full of intense concentration, but that egg timer only contains about 90 mins worth of concentration.

Your future progression at golf will to a large extent depend on your ability to develop the skill of using the egg timer at the appropriate time and then being able to give yourself a mental break during the other period of play rather than BURNING UP your mental energy at the WRONG TIME.

Kind regards,
Karl

In this video, I talk about controlling nerves and anxiety on the golf course – and you’ll understand exactly why golfers often find it so hard to get their mind to settle down so they can just get on with the job of just playing a round of golf.

I hope you enjoy it, and leave your feedback below.

Kind regards,
Karl

The Secret to Consistent Golf

In my experience, almost every golf lesson starts with the pro asking “what would you like?” and the golfer saying… “I just want to be more CONSISTENT“.

Over the last 15 years, I have been very fortunate to work with some successful people in the world of golf, and I’ve always had one question in the back of my mind…

What is it that successful golfers do that the rest don’t?

What I’ve discovered over the years is that consistency in golf is not an accident – it is a set of rituals that can easily be learned.

I’ve carefully distilled this information into 7 Effective Rituals which I consider the most important single aspects in your quest for success.

Rituals used by world class golfers such as Ben Hogan, Padraig Harrington and Tiger Woods.

Just released today, my latest audio programme will reveal the LOST ART and the incredible POWER of EFFECTIVE RITUALS, so you can take your consistency to a whole new level.

In short – you’ll discover what those who achieve DO and those who fail DON’T!!!

What is The Zone?

We hear so much about the unconscious mind and “getting into the zone” these days in golf, in business and life in general. Yet, what is the unconscious other than a vague description of something that is, well, unconscious!

I for one have felt times when I imagined that I was beginning to get a good grasp of the subject only to realise later that what I thought I knew, was only a fraction of what I really needed to understand.

I am, however, pretty clear that if we want to become the best that we can possibly be at golf, then we do need to make friends with and develop trust in our unconscious processes.

The key point is that you can train your unconscious mind to react in the way that YOU want it to rather than in the way that society has probably conditioned it to react.

  • How have you programmed your brain with regards to your golf?
  • What language do you use?
  • How do you react to a poor shot or a defeat?
  • How do you react to a bad day?

Please leave your thoughts and comments below.

Each time that you react with emotional intensity to a poor outcome on or off the course you are programming your unconscious mind to FEAR golf.

Crazy as this seems it is exactly what is going on with the majority golf’s men and women in the world today.

Regards,
Karl

What’s your handicap?

Two golfers meet each other for the first time – what is the first question they ask?

“What is your handicap?”

The veiled question is: “Are you better than me?”

When you come off course – first question people ask is: “What did you shoot?”

We are culturally focussed on results.

But results are just one part of the picture, and they don’t always come to order. Not even Tiger Woods can guarantee results every time.

If you enjoyment of the game of golf is dependant on results only, then you are going to be a pretty unhappy golfer.

Worse still, unhappy golfers tend to get into a vicious circle by making mistakes and getting tense…

Shifting your focus away from results can make a huge difference to your game.

For example – aside from getting results, what is it you really enjoy about playing golf?

The fresh air? The friendly banter? The view from the 15th?

Please leave your thoughts and comments below.

Regards,
Karl

Ps – If you are on our players golf coaching programme, you’ll find the topic just published in the ‘How to Think Like Pro’ course helpful. You’ll learn how the pros find balance in our results driven culture, and the two most important questions they ask themselves after every round of golf they play. Golf Swing Thoughts

Swing thoughts seem to get a lot of attention, and I’ve already covered some good tips on dealing with swing thoughts in my free golf tips video series.

Today I want to ask one question:

Whenever you have played your very best golf, is it usually down to MORE or LESS thinking?

Over and over again when I have asked some of the world’s finest golfers about their very best performances, it seems the repeating pattern is one of a QUIET mind or a CALM mind, as opposed to a mind drowning in thinking.

Golf is a curious game because it demands thought. You need to think about your current lie, the best place to land the ball for your next shot, the on-course hazards (water, bunkers etc), speed of the green, effects of the wind, etc. The list goes on.

But after all that thinking, you just need to switch to automatic and just play the shot. The swing thought you choose can help reduce the chatter in your mind – if you haven’t already seen my swing thoughts video (it’s free), you can get some good ideas on how to do this.

And please leave your thoughts and ideas below.

Regards,
Karl

In this topic, I share a rock solid method to ‘cross the bridge’ from thinking to playing. Members can login here (non-members can signup for my MIND FACTOR Players Coaching programme here).

Ideas anyone?
